Donald Leonard

Donald Leonard, 74, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Sanford U.S.D. Medical Center, Sioux Falls from complications of chronic illness. Donald Wayne Leonard was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 31, 1938, the son of Gerald “Jerry” and Olga Josephine (Entenmann) Leonard. In the third grade his family moved from Sioux Falls to Lennox, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Lennox High School in 1956. He attended the University of South Dakota for one year, majoring in business. He served six years in the South Dakota Air National Guard. On February 11, 1961 Donald was united in marriage to Luella Voll at the Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. The couple lived briefly in Sioux Falls before moving to Lennox. In 1964 he became business partners with Ole Johnson when they purchased the International Truck dealership in Lennox. Don became full owner in 1973. He continued to own and operate Leonard Motors with his son, Kyle, until his death. Donald was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was a life long Mason. Don and Luella loved to camp and ride bicycle. He also had an interest in bicycle repair. The couple spent 11 winters at the Lost Dutchman Campground in Apache Junction, AZ. Besides his parents, Jerry in 1963 and Olga in 2006, Don was preceded in death by his step-father, Ben Knock in 1986. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Luella, Lennox, daughter, Cara Waggoner, Lennox and son Kyle Leonard (Connie Phen and her three daughters), Lennox, one granddaughter, Meghan Waggoner, Lennox; sister, Patricia (Daryl) Fokken, Yankton; step sisters: Sondra (Frank) Stickney, Elk Point, Sheran Crammer and Judy (Steve) Bates both of Omaha; niece, Brenda (Rich) Job and their children and Brad (Victoria) Fokken and their daughter as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Memorial services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 30 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox. Visitation with the family present will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox.
